In this day and age, technology can be a source of insecurity for many, with social media impacting mental health, especially for the younger generation. But what if there’s an app that can make you feel better, too? Introducing Thailand’s very own Buddy App, an application born out of a collaboration between The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Rajanagarindra Institute within the Department of Mental Health, together with Thoresen Thai Agencies Public Company, to help young adults deal with bullying.
The platform is designed to strengthen users’ mental resilience and enforce self-learning while developing skills to manage bullying through self-assessment features.
“The platform offers a mood tracking feature that can teach children some critical life skills, from problem-solving to emotion management,” says PJ Harisawan Siriwong, Managing Director of Buddy App. “These are all necessary skills to have as kids grow up so they can learn to manage their emotions and better understand themselves.”
These emotion-management skills are important lifelong lessons, regardless of age. The sooner children learn to manage themselves, the more useful they will be.
“For us, it’s important to learn these skills from a young age,” says Chalermchai Mahagitsiri, Managing Director and CEO of Thoresen Thai Agencies. “Children can use these skills in everyday life and build a strong foundation of self-support.”
Buddy allows users to track their emotions daily, monthly, and annually and identify their triggers and moods. A self-assessment feature also allows children to identify their traits and personalities. The app has a rewards feature where users can reward themselves with points and redeem them for real-life gifts. An SOS feature is also included for real-time assistance with various mental health organizations.
What’s next? The team will expand its community to ‘Buddy For All’, aimed at people of all ages through offline events, campaigns, and activities to enhance mental well-being. The platform is also continuously looking for like-minded partners to support its mission.
