After months of public conflict, resignations and rumours of cabinet re-shuffling, Prime Minister Prayuth’s new cabinet has now been royally endorsed.
Here are the new Ministers and their new positions:
Predee Daochai: Minister of Finance
Supattanapong Punmeechao: Minister of Energy &Deputy Prime Minister
Don Pramudwinai: Retaining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs but additionally appointed Deputy Prime Minister
Anucha Nakasai: Minister to the Office of the Prime Minister
Anek Laothamatas: Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation
Suchart Chomklin: Minister of Labour
Naruemon Pinyosinwat: Deputy Minister of Labour
Predee Daochai’s post as Minister of Finance will be a significant position to take as Thailand weathers through an economic contraction, further stressed by the pandemic and its hard hitting effect on our tourism and export sector.
It is unlikely that we will see significant modifications to the way our government is run despite the re-shuffling, but here’s to hoping that the 2.0 cabinet pushes for some sort of change.
