Some more good news regarding the covid-19 vaccine. Pfizer gained emergency US authorization for its Covid-19 vaccine earlier today, which is some positive news for the world and especially for Americans, who are still struggling with the most infections across the world.
Earlier today, it was announced that New York City restaurants will have to close indoor dining again, after a short period of allowing 25% indoor capacity. However, outdoor dining/takeaway/delivery will still be permitted. Still, this is another blow to businesses.
The Food and Drug Administration’s decision to authorize use of Pfizer and partner BioNTech SE’s vaccine will now launch via an immunization drive that will launch across the country in coming days, with healthcare workers and the elderly in long term care facilities getting priority.
The first doses will begin shipping throughout the country immediately, according to Pfizer’s CEO, Albert Bourla.
This is a big win for Pfizer, who created the drug in a matter of months, using completely new technology. The vaccine has been approved in the UK and Canada.
A shot similar to Pfizer and BioNTech’s made by Moderna is also expected to see US clearance next week.
Meanwhile, Thais are waiting on the final trials for AstraZeneca and Oxford’s vaccines, which has to undergo further analysis to see its effectiveness with people over 55+.
